Intro to reader...

Finally jumping into the book! I think it is awesome we will be reading about these 5 artists that have taken art to a level of "freedom" and that have strayed away from the traditional art scene.  It will be much more interesting and engaging for us as artists ourselves to learn about these individuals.  There is one passage that really stood out to me in which I would like to take my time to discuss: "This attitude is one of total acceptance of the common place for its own sake rather than for its ability to function as an image or symbol in a work of art.  They are not interested in turning the common place into art; they offer it intact, untransformed, a fragment of the life we live everyday" (4, Fulbeck).  This part particularly really pulled me in because i realize more and more everyday, as I live on the beautiful coast of SB, that the world around us is a piece of art.  Isla Vista is its own living self with so many attributes that come together to create that spectacular environment that allows for so many different experiences.  I'm excited to learn about Marcel Duchamp in particular and his "ironic" style of art because I love stand-out attitudes about the world and through reading this intro, I feel Duchamp will be the artist I most relate too.
