PROUD.

Over the summer I took a film program at UCSB.  It was called Blue Horizons and possesses the goal of environmental and scientific awareness through the art work of film.  I chose to portray the sea otter/sea urchin conflict.  Basically, the sea otters were restricted to which areas they were allowed to swim in, in order to stay out of the way of fisherman, which goes hand in hand with danger.  Being sea otters, they could not stay out of the areas and they were getting killed and making the fishermen mad.  Along the way of creating this process, I had a film partner, a fellow producer.  We worked really hard, getting up at 6 am on fridays to drive to Monterey, which is where all the sea otters are!  I barely slept, and loved it.  I was in charge of the camera most of the time, I had a better eye for the focus and such and my partner was mostly hands on with the editing, although we were both present for both parts of the project.  At the end, we had a vision for a piece with multipule sequences, and did not leave ourselves much time for editing.  But we got it together and I loved it.  It was a bit hard because my partner, being a graduating senior, had worked on many films before and wanted this to be A+ SPECTACULAR.  I thought it was.  Although she felt a bit down, she really liked what we had done in the end and I was so proud.  After 9 weeks of intense hard work, filming, setting up appointments and such, we had a showing in the MCC.  I was nervous when the 8 minute documentary was showing but so proud when the credits rolled around, my favorite scene of the film I had shot.  Anyways, I love film and finally putting together my own was so fulfilling.  If I had done it on my own, I might have done a couple things differently, and although the film was more scientific than I wanted to have been artistic, I was so happy and in love with the process.  Unfortunately, my partner has the copy on her harddrive so I can not present it here.  However I am meeting up with her this weekend to get a copy! If anyone has any interest in seeing it, I would love to give you a link and would be flattered. :).
