Chapter nine is titled "Putting It All Together". I realized I didn't see the mark before for the start of chapter nine and wrote a bit about it for chapter eight! Anyways, McCloud starts out discussing communication between minds. There is restricted ability about the flow from mind to mind that breaks communication between two. Luckily, we have mediums that allow us to communicate despite this barrier. "Media convert thoughts into forms that can traverse the physical world and be re-converted by one or more senses back into thoughts" (195). The comic allows the flow of thought to go from the mind to the hand to the paper to the eye to the mind. Understanding comics is an important part to the equation as well, hence this book. The existing attitudes and pre-notions about comics sometimes breech their opportunities. In order to really understand and embrace the opportunity for communication, one must let go of pre-existing ideas about comics and learn about them. McCloud goes on to refer to comics as a "great balancing act". He explains that they have "seeds of expressionism and synasthetics". (209) Overall, I enjoyed reading this book, as my appreciation for comics has certainly grown.
