Wow were almost done??? LECTURE.
Today's lecture was pretty good. I really enjoyed looking at the works of Duane Michals. I found his narrative work not only to perfectly fit David Antin's description of sequence, but to really embody the mood he seemed to be aiming for. When the first photograph came up, (This Photograph is my Proof- 1974) I liked the photo and felt it's radiating beauty. However, it was not until Kip read what Michals wrote under the picture that I really understood the narrative. In this sense, I think this piece is particularly effective in capturing the moment in time when the woman did love him and the feeling of love that had seemed to be lost. It was really powerful to me. I also really enjoyed... Chance Meeting, Death Comes to the Old Lady, The Voyeur's Pleasure Becomes Pain, The Young Girls Dream and The Lost Shoe. Next in lecture came Jim Goldberg's Nursing Home Collection (1985). I always find myself feeling sympathetic for old people, and this project further reimbursed those emotions. I thought it was really powerful how their own handwriting was on their photographs, it made it very tangible, real. I enjoyed the film as well, especially the actual film part when the woman lies in bed and moves. I thought that little scene added a lot to the movie.
