Tuesday's Personal Space!

I really enjoyed a couple of the personal space assignments presented today.  One of my favorites was Chelsea, she was so funny running around in that skunk outfit.  I loved it when she was spraying that liquid ass stuff toward that one girl in the video and she just goes "Well Im a skunk" hahaha it was perfect.  I didn't really understand the meaning of her personal space besides fun, but I guess I can see how an animal that is usually unwanted is invading people's personal space on campus.  So I found that one really entertaining.  I also liked Walter's piece.  I think it was interesting how he essentially set up his own walk way upon another walk way to see how people would respond to his Enter and Exit signs.  When I asked him if people followed his directions, he said for the most part.  I find this one interesting in terms of personal space because people usually follow public boundaries, but these ones were unusual, set on a pathway where those people probably walk all day.  Anyways here is a link to the youtube vid of tuesday's projects I posted.....  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NhpYKg7vus&feature=player_embedded

Week nine doc.

So this was the week for our alternate identities!! Britta and I were spies/ fbi agents, Ellin Sloane and Veronica Santos, respectively.  Here is our documentation!

Art shizz week 9

So my main art show type of thing for this week is definitely my little brother's latest piece of work.  He did a short video promoting the awareness of the factors our modern lifestyles take on the environment, specifically cars.  I draw a lot of my video inspiration from his work and aspire to be an editor of his skill at some point!! Here is a link to the video.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsXp40IHVxA

Least fav place

HMM.... my least favorite place.  Alright. I think I would have to say the dentist's office.  I know I know so typical but it is true.  I HATE getting my teeth cleaned.  The little screechy thing in my ear for like an hour and the woman scratching my teeth like they are bricks with that sharp metal pick that digs into my gums and makes me bleed unnecessarily.  I bleed enough with all my injuries I always seem to have I don't need some woman poking around in my mouth!! Ahh yuck.  And my dentist office has this machine they got about a year about that the lady always uses on my teeth and its the same little metal scratcher pick thing but it squirts out the tiniest amount of water and makes the WORST high pitched sound.  So not only do I have that lady scratching my teeth but I have that high pitched tone that probably only dogs are supposed to hear ringing in my ear.  Bad newwss.  And the light shining in my eyes.  So as you can tell  I hate the process that goes on at the dentist which is why I would classify it as my least favorite place!!

Fav place.

Well I have many many many favorite places.  BUT if I have to pick one right now in my life I would have to say it is Ojai Valley Spa and Inn.  It is off the 33 freeway.  Sometimes my parents go down there for a relaxing weekend and I con them into getting me a room and a massage :).  It is so relaxing and has so many good vibes.  I just feel healthy, relaxed, and at peace while I am there. Everything is Spanish style architecture; beautiful white walls with deep brown oaky accents and plants everywhere.  That is one of the things that brings the most peace and good vibes to the aura, the plant life.  They have all different types of beautiful flowers and even cactus looking places.  I just love being at Ojai!!!!

Friday Free

WWWWOOO i love free forms.  I always get so excited to see them on our weekly lists haha.  But anyways, I always write for free forms and i wanted to put some pictures up I have taken throughout this year that I love.  I thought it would be kinda a nice blog post to wrap up the year and such!

Thurdsay personaaaas.

Today was the second day of alternate identity presentations.  Lots of coooool and exciting presentations today! I would have to say my favorite was Natalie's.  Her video was so funny and it really shows she dedicated her time to it.  Not sure if she really kept that identity for 48 hours but she definitely dedicated herself for enough time to show she did the project!! I love the part in her video when she climbs the stairs and films the choir group and audience or whatever that was and acted as if they were two groups; one attempting to attract the other with a mating call.  Obviously the singers were the ones sending the mating call.  So funny. Hahaa and when she was in the bush secretly filming people that was hilarious.  I would have loved to see that one in person!  My least favorite project today was probably Jenny's. I appreciate that she wanted to dedicate that part of her project to her Grandpa (??) who had the stroke but honestly I thought it was kind of an odd identity to pick for 48 hours. I mean there is a lot of emotional and mental impact that goes with a stroke that clearly she could not experience which kind of inevitably made the project half done. She could only experience (KINDA) the physical part.  I understand where she is coming from but I just though she should have had fun with this assignment instead of making people think you are handicapped?? Not sure shoulda checked the ethics board ahha.  But i respect her efforts and sensibility to others!!

Critical Reflection time. THINK BOUT IT.

Today's blog is to do a critical reflection of the theme of alternate identity and personal space. Alternate identity is an entity that actually seems to be very common in this day and age of social networking and even social systems.  It seems as though a lot of people have a vision in their head of how they want to be perceived by other people and take measures in their daily lives to ensure this appearance or facade. Like with clothing, makeup, or even attitude.  I think attitude and personality are the two most affected.  When someone creates a facade for themselves, they create a facade for their entire lives that blocks them from growing as a true individual and learning about themselves.  This is an issue I am starting to explore and learn more about.  I want to be in touch with my inner self, ideals, morals, attitude all of that and really understand what I am about before I dedicate myself to anyone in a relationship or anything like that.  Anyways, personal space is another issue.  I find some people are super concerned with keeping their personal space private and intimate.  Through my time exploring these people's personas I have found hidden and repressed feelings.  I think it is truly important to know one's true identity and the limits of one's own personal space.  Everyone is different.  But I do not think it is a bad thing to let people you love and trust into your personal space.  And by personal space here I mean thought ideas the mind and spirit.
The beach helps center the soullllll, a pic I took :)

Tuesday personassss.

Today was the start of the alternate persona presentations!!! My favorite would definitely have to be Andrea.  One because I love her, she just has such a sweet disposition and I loved how she just put herself into the frat world for 48 hours.  Those boys are so entertaining, but certainly a handful and I do not think I would have been able to last that long in a circumstance as such! She definitely did it right by being so outgoing in all of their activities and funny little things.  I love how it took her like 5 minutes to open the beer bottle with the lighter and her hand ahahah so precious.  Anyways yeah I loved her dedication which really shined through in her video and such.  Good job woman!  Here is her youtube.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRET4qthJK4&feature=player_embedded .  I think my least favorite was probably the girl scout one.  I just did not think it was that creative and expressive.  I don't know I just didn't find it interesting or understand why that would be entertaining for someone to do for 48 hours?  Also how do you be a girl scout for 48 hours?  Just did not make that much sense to me as an alternate persona.  I mean she looked the part, but is that why she chose to do it? So she could look the part?  Not sure!

Final &&&& TA prezzentations.

Woo so happy the final is over!!!  It was sort of along the same lines that I thought it was going to be but it was also really different.  I definitely thought it was going to be shorter.  Overall I feel okay about it.  I accidentally called Laurel Nakadate Krystal for some reason haha.  But I just really tried to write as much as I knew about each work and hopefully get the most points possible for it! There were some that I just did not know enough about to elaborate on so I just put the information I did know about it (or thought I knew about it haha) and filled in a lot about the ones I knew most about.  Overall, I pretty much enjoyed all of the TAs presentations.  The first one was kinda boring since it was just a slide show of that TAs work.  But I did enjoy seeing what other classes did for all of the different projects such as confessions and especially the sequence/narrative pieces.  I thought ours was definitely the most entertaining! Even though I had already watched our video I watched it again in class.  I liked that the final was a relaxed environment and students could either focus on the videos and presentations if they were done or keep writing until they felt satisfied.  Overall, successful 7A!!

Week OCHO documentation

This week we did a lot of planning.  Lots and lots of planning.  On Tuesday, we worked on our alternate identity assignments! We did a lot of discussing in groups as well as telling Desiree what we think we want our final identities were going to be.  Britta and I decided to do it together.  We were brainstorming on a couple things.  We really wanted to do anything  that we could utilize her cool wigs with!! One is long and red and one is short and orange.  Anyways, we chose to be spies! My last entry I was in character as Veronica Santos.  Britta's spy name was Ellin Sloane, we though they sounded sleek and spyish ahaha! Here are the pics of our project.

Anyways, we also discussed, on Thursday, what we wanted to do for our personal space projects.  Britta and I also want to do that one together since we had so much fun doing our spy costumes!  We talked about a couple things.  Being statues, like covered in all gold or silver, but that would be really boring for too hours! But it does kind of deal with cool personal space ideas because as statues, people tend to believe you don't need personal space, and INVADE IT! Not sure if I am up for that one though. Anyways, we are going to be gypsy like connector's to the force within.  We want to bring people peace with sage and eucalyptus and calming stones, and fairy cards! I think it is a good idea with finals week since everyone is stressed.  If everyone just gets in touch with their inner self, soul and force, stress could be eliminated and everyone would have much better vibes with finals week.

Art Shizow. week 8.

Still need to get my documentation and put it up for this one!

Alternate Persona/ Real Persona...

So todays entry says to do a free form, either an entry in your alternate persona and/ or about yourself! So I am going to do both.
Alternate Persona:  "007  mission given today, copy that? Alright, so plan A is to begin at ground zero, roof top.  We shall scale down the retractable latter and hide it so when we need to get back to ground zero it will be easy accessibility.  Run to the gate; note, be sure to wear untraceable shoes, no footprints to be left. Once at the gate, it is a free for all.  Goal: retrieve the target to bossman. Plan B: Improv.  Use skills as necessary. Copy that ranger? Veronica Santos, OUT."
Myself:  Alright, back to me! Recently, I feel as though I have been letting out my anger.  This is something I really do not like about myself.  It gets the worst when I speak to my parents.  Most would probably find that unacceptable, which don't get me wrong, I absolutely do.  But I am just so close with my parents and I know their love is unconditional so it is almost as if I think it is ok to be rude.  It is NOT and I feel so awful every time I do it, so I don't know why I continue to act that way. Anyways, a goal for me from now on is to be nicer to my parents and really appreciate what they have given me, and the wonderful life they allow me to live.  I think I need to do a spy mission and capture my rude self and destroy it!!

5.21.2011

This one's a toughy!!!

Wow, this is such a hard entry!!! Well I am going to make it my own because it is just tooooo hard to pick one artist that I would want to be!! So for fun I want to pick a few different artists from different categories and talk about why I would want to be them.
1.  First is actors: I would want to be Penelope Cruz.  I find her absolutely breathtaking!!!! Not only is she beautiful, but she is such a successful actress.  And did not even know English when she came here.  Thats a beaut!

2. singers:  If I could be any singer I would have to say I would want to be someone that lived the rocker life, like The Runaways, Cherie Curie and Joan Jet.  I recently watched the movie depicting their lives and it just seemed so sick.  Hopefully mine would end up in a different direction.... but that would definitely be the type of life I would want to live, without knowing of course how bad all the drugs and cigarettes and such are for you haha.

3.  visual: I would definitely want to be Annie Lebovitz.  Her photography is beyond the scope of many people's minds.  I would want to be her to experience possessing an eye for beauty like that!

5.20.2011

SUPA villan.

Although being the good guy/hero is better for obvious reasons, being a villan would be so much more fun!  You would not have to solve problems and fix them, YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE THE CHAOS.  So, with that said, if I could be any super villan, it would be the rival to my super hero, which would be DA JOKER!! (subpoint: the creepy Heath Ledger version of course :))  Anyways, I picked the joker because he is so creepy and insane that if I was going to be a super villan, it would have to be the ultimately creepy one, which is definitely the Joker.  Plus he is known worldwide so I would be KNOWN for committing my crimes.  Come on, fame's important in the super world as well!!!

5.19.2011

SUPA hero.

Dude, there are so many super heros out there, but if I could be one I'd definitely be Batman.  Fuck him being a boy and everything.  First of all, batman can "fly" in his own special way.  I mean he jumps from buildings and whatever but he is definitely the sickest.  I love how he is all black.  Not only does that make him camo into the darkness of the night while he is carrying out his missions, but he is most definitely the sexiest!! Plus he's now made millions of dollars off of all the movies he has made :p. JUST KEEDING, but really Batman is the best.  Plus he saves innocent people of the city!! COOOOoooooooooOOOOOOOOOl.

5.18.2011

FREE DOS.

This is rare, another free form!! I am planning my summer and I have so many exciting things going on I honestly just want to talk about them so I can get even more excited!! So first I gotta get through finals.  Thats going to be a toughy.  I have felt my self slacking in the last couple of weeks so I really just need to pull it together and really make shit happen, so to say.  I am not worried about art, since it is the only class I enjoy right now and have really dedicated time to (haha). But anyways, after finals I get to move into my new apartment! I am excited for the peace and quiet of a living environment with fewer people.  I live with 6 people right now so it will be really nice to just live with the 2 girls I get along with best.  After that I have to take 3 classes over session A :/.  At least I'll be in SB though! And at least they are all arthistory and art studio classes :)).  Then comes the best part! I get to be in my hometown LA for a little which is nice since I never get good quality time at home.  And then the Grecian Islands with my family!! I am so excited to see Santorini, the white romance.  After that my parents are letting my little bro and I travel around Spain together.  I am so excited! It's gonna be an amazing summer and hopefullayyy sunaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
****not taken by me!!****

Free forma.

Today is a free form.  So I recently was going through my email and found a bunch of poems In a Creative Writing Project I did a while ago.  I'm so happy I found the collection.  So for today's free form I thought I would share a couple of my favorite ones!! The Collection is titled, "Genuine Touch".
Eyes
Eyes can bring a person,
To a whole new level of truth.
They may see what is past the flesh,
And they may not.

It all depends on the person inside.

For some, if you want to see truth,
You do.
If you want to see lies,
You do.

The eyes that see to the soul,
Of the heart,
Are the
Valuable eyes.

They do not need glasses,
Or contacts,
To reveal,
The true image.

Eyes are connected,
To the brain.
Some see to generate thoughts.
Some generate thoughts to see.

There is only one who can see as you do,
Think as you do,
Hear s you do,
Act as you do.

There will never
Be another
Brain, ear or eye,
Just you.

In the end,
You will see the truth of yourself,
Whether it is that you see lies,
Or you that sees truth.

An Invisible Loss
My grandfather smells as a neatly folded newspaper does,
After being brought in from the rain.

The words are somewhat blurry,
But still hold truth in what they say.

The pictures still match up.
He still makes sense.

But smells as if a part of him has been washed away.
Only the outside, inside is here to stay.

But I still see him oh so bright.
They read the newspaper.
I smell the news paper,
From the rain, and know,
That it will always be my gramps.

Footprints
Walking down the sidewalk of a very busy street.
Seeing so many different people,
Different hairdos,
Different clothing,
Different shoes,
Different personalities,
Different ideas,
Different perspectives,
Different footsteps.
Some are size six, and some are size nine,
But do we care?
This does not define the person that lies inside.
The footsteps that matter are beyond the street,
Beyond the sidewalk and beyond the feet.
They are the ones that are marched inside the heart.
They will lead to a path that only you know,
They will lead to a path that only you'll go.
And when I get there I will finally see,
What footsteps and paths lie inside of me.

LAST LEeeecCCttTTAA!

Today was our last lecture! Sad because I really enjoyed this class!! Kip truly made the lectures so interesting and exciting.  Being my first real art class at UCSB, I just want to say I really enjoyed the teaching style and the material we discussed.  At first looking at the times I thought the lectures were gonna feel like forever, but they really did not at all.  They actually ended up feeling like a half hour or so which is amazing.  Anyways, just wanted to say that being the last lecture and all!  Today we talked about a few different artists.  Yoko Ono was first.  I had not really known anything about her before this lecture so it was definitely interesting to learn about her a bit.  We also talked about Ken Little and Allan Kaprow.  A definition of a type of art we learned about today was Happenings: art from in which action is extracted from the environment, replacing the traditional art object with a performative gesture, such as the "Fluids" project done in 1967.  Then we discussed the works of Kryzysztaf Wodiczko which I found really interesting!  He projects light in public places to make different statements.  Although Kip seemed not to enjoy the women worker's faces projected on their workplace to express the discrimination and unfair work practices, I felt that one very powerful and expressive.  I liked hos the faces were on a sphere like part of the building which gave them a cartoonish but 3D impression.  I also found Laurel Nakadate's work titled 365: A Catalogue of Tears really interesting.  It was interesting to see sadness captured in different ways, different types of sadness really.  And without texts the viewer has no choice but to input their own interpretation upon the photos without really knowing the real motive.  COOL!

Art Shizow. week sev.

Hoping to fill this up!

Week sevvvv documentation

This week in class we worked on our flash moobbbass.  Tuesday we discussed what we wanted to do and then Thursday we actually did a flash mob! As I wrote about in thursdays entry.  We discussed a lot of possibilities for our flash mob experience.  A lot of it was deciding what KIND of flash mob we wanted to do, whether it was a song dance type of thing or action (like what we ended up doing) or something more abstract like a freeze frame type of thing.  Anyways we decided on a couple flash mobs.  First we did the duck duck goose in the middle of the bus circle.  It was so much fun! I felt like a second grader haha.  But for some reason, I dont know if I looked like a weak target or something, but I got picked like 3 times!! I lengthened my stride which helped on my later trials.  Anyways, after that was done we did the shoot out in the UCEN.  That one was definitely the most successful and my favorite!! It was so funny to watch everyone's faces.  We picked the perfect place and it was pretty crowded.  I just wish Desiree and Jonathan were more towards the center for the stareoff! Then we did the lineup outside of the elevator in the lib. That one was funny, especially when some girl turned to Britta and was like "what are we doing!?!?" and joined in and Britta was just like "I have no idea!!" ahahahah. like it was completely random.  Then we did ninjas which was fun but not my favorite.  The old guys seemed to enjoy it though.  And then we did another trial of the shoot out in the two level part of the UCEN.  That one wasn't as successful as the first shootout but still got some pretty funny looks!! Anyways heres the youtube vid! www.youtube.com/watch?v=omfztvUhAh4

Final Alternate Identity

Okay, so Britta and I ended up choosing an alternate identity that was not on or close to any on my original list!!!!  We want to be spies/ fbi agents, pretty much undercover.  Our mission is to create spy cases.  We do not want to make people feel uncomfortable but make ourselves seem like we are spies so people will be second guessing themselves when looking at us!! So this post is to answer the basic questions, which is what I'm about to do.  WHO: Britta and I in disguise as Ellin Sloane and Veronica Santos, respectively.  WHAT: We complete different missions appointed to us by our higher ups.  Unfortunately out of courtesy to the sacred institution of the FBI and the high class nature of our missions, we are not allowed to discuss the intent or subjects.  WHEN: during the 48 hours (sunday & monday during the final).  WHERE: anywhere our mission takes us; the front yard, in bushes, rooftops, cars, grocery marts, stores, streets bikes, final exam......haha. WHY: Who hasn't dreamed of being a spy in their lifetime?!? We reminisced to the time we were kids when we both used to play around like we were completing missions and spying on people.  HOW:  we will be given a subject by our higher up and complete whatever mission necessary to be considered top agents.  Our agent uniforms will be black at all times and we will wear sunglasses and colored wigs whenever out in public in order not to reveal our true identities.
Our top bossman, Joni Yamagoni, FBI

Who am I?!?!

Finally time for Alternate Identity Assignmentsss! Cool I'm excited.  I think it will be really fun to go to the final and see everyone in their identities!  Anyways I have a couple of ideas so here are 3 rough proposals.
1.  I like the idea of displaying private information publicly.  Like, I constantly write little lists and agendas and things I have to do today tonight tomorrow this week this weekend this month and on and on.  Although these lists are supposed to keep me organized, sometimes I feel a bit more stressed by them because they are all over the place and I get stressed about stressful lists! So I thought one fun idea for my alternate identity would be to have one list and one list only, but on my arm.  So I would tie a sharpie to my wrist and write every one of my lists and things I needed to remember on my arm.  It'd be right there for me.  The "alternate identity" going along with it would be organized in a sense, composed, something I am not.  Now having the list on my arm is for convenience and clearly display.  I think it'd be cool to have my notes and doddles and lists, sort of forming an art piece by the end of the 48 hours! So that's a possibility.
2.  Another idea Britta and I had was to be an Indian tribe.  Clearly this would include more than the two of us, so we would have to gather a group of people in the class that would be down to do this project as a group!  But I think it's a cool idea of playing with a sense of unity; being recognized as a group and a continuous unit by anyone throughout those 48 hours (which would be a lot of people).  It's kind of a play on not so much reputation I don't want to say, but image more so.  By associating with the others by appearance, I would be associating behavior and persona with them as well.  So I just think thats an interesting idea.  It's "alternate" in the sense that on an everyday basis I am on my own and only dependent upon myself for people knowing me and recognizing me.
3.  I also had the idea of dying my hair a bright color, like blue, purple, red and so forth.  Now I know this seems like a surface alternate identity, but there is some thought to it for me personally.  I think for a lot of girls, myself diluted by the trend, hair is a major component of image.  It is something a lot of girls feel self-conscious about and depend on to make themselves feel good.  If my hair looks like shit, I do feel gross I admit.  Now as for the color, I know I will stand out, and since it will be temporary dye for 48 hours, I will HAVE to get used to people staring and whatsoever.  I think it'd be good for me to step out of my image self involved zone and get used to people staring.  I also don't like being the center of attention in a public space, and this would certainly force me to be okay with it!
This is beautiful!

Something along these lines hahaha.

What coloooaaa?!?!?

FLASH MOBSSS! (part II)

Flash moooooooooobs!! Thursday section was so much fun.  That is the kind of stuff that is convincing me to double major with Art studio!! I am so excited.  Anyways, I thought thursday was a really good idea and I'm glad we did it!  My favorites were the duck duck goose and definitely the shoot out.  I do not know why but I kept getting picked!  But at least I got my exercise for the day.  Actually pretty pathetic I was breathing so hard after duck duck goose and the shoot out haha.  But yeah I am glad we did the duck duck in the bike circle.  I saw a few people pass by who I knew which was fun and then saw lots of weird looks but also lots of smiles!! As long as we made a few people smile I'm good with that.  So much fun doing the shoot out in the couches area of the UCEN cause we were able to jump and bounce over all the couches.  I loved how some people joined in and then others were like WTF is going on!  Perfect, although I do wish it was a little bit more crowded.  But overall I think we held it long enough and such.  One of the most funny parts of the day though was when we did the library one and some random girl jumped in and was like "what are we doing why are we doing this!?" and britta just goes "yaa no idea what is this!"  so funny!!

Free forrrmm.

The connection between people and music is almost unexplainable.  Music artists become so famous for their extraordinary ability to create pleasurable sounds and words that come together to make people feel emotion.  I like a couple different types of music that make me feel different emotions.  I tend to associate different music with different times in my life because I go through times of really liking one type of music and moving on.  I think if I had to pick my favorite band of all time, just in a dire circumstance where I could only choose one, I think it would have to be SUBLIME.  Like if I could bring one music artist back to hear them play it would have to be Bradley Nowell. It's just that one band for me that I can listen to in any mood at any time and never get sick of them.  Some other alternative bands I really enjoy include soja, expendables, rebelution, bob marley of course, long beach dub allstars, which is like some of the sublime band members, manu chao and more.  I also really like r & b/ rap.  Likeeee, Kanye, bob, lil wayne, brother ali, talib kweli (EXTRAVAGANZA!!), jay z, jurassic 5, common, nas and cant leave out 50.  Im getting more into like "raver" music too I guess you could say haha, like rusko, chuckie, afrojack and all that.  Of course I enjoy the classics that remind me of my momma and pops, like tom petty, elton john, rolling stones, led zepplin, janis joplin, and then like mommas and papas, michael buble and all that!  So I guess you could say I have a wide range of liking which is good!

URLssss........www...........www.........www........

Okay so were supposed to put an entry in with all of our URLs to some of our different projects... which is what I have collected here.  First off is the pun.  For my pun I chose to do a face plant!! I put a bunch of faces of some of my friends, including my little brother :p, on the leaves of the plant!  Next is our Nexus assignment.  I made up a protest that would happen about Floatopia! Although not all believable, who knows what could happen in IV! And we made it to the Nexus which is SICK!!! Third is our act of beauty and kindness.  Unfortunately I was not able to get documentation of this one :(.  But I do have a blogpost for it.  Fourth is the altered activity in public space.  I chose to do a dirt devil in Albertsons! When I searched hard, I did find some dust and grime!! Yuckoo.  I helped them out though no worries.  Then our confession.  My confession dealt with a mistake I made in the past.  It felt really good to get it out and reflect on it even though I was nervous!! And last is the documentation of our sequence and narrative projects.  I was really happy with the way this one came out!  This was the documentary of my niece about her parents divorce.  Desiree, you have already seen it online, I have it on my hardrive so Ill put it on my disc but there is no space capability to put it up here.  But there is an entry about it! Here are all the URLS.

classes.

besides art, I am taking two other classes. first, English 10. I have to admit, it is the death of me. I have lecture after sections on Tuesday's and thursdays but can never bring myself to go! and when I do go, I just play sudoku the whole time so it seems pointless anyways! but I think I'm doing well in the class. we took the midterm like 3 weeks ago but still haven't gotten it back. I think I did alright though because I discussed the test with a few friends after class and we all seemed to be on the same page. anyways. we had a paper we got back to revise and turn back in and I think I changed it to an A paper! I'm also
taking psych 7. honestly, it's pretty boring it is all experimental which is not the most interesting sub section of psych! I thought I wanted to double majpr in econ and psyckh so that's why I'm in the class but now I think I want to switch to econ and art. wahooo. interesting combo I know haha but I honestly have a passion for both subjects!

Wow were almost done??? LECTURE.

Today's lecture was pretty good.  I really enjoyed looking at the works of Duane Michals.  I found his narrative work not only to perfectly fit David Antin's description of sequence, but to really embody the mood he seemed to be aiming for.  When the first photograph came up, (This Photograph is my Proof- 1974) I liked the photo and felt it's radiating beauty.  However, it was not until Kip read what Michals wrote under the picture that I really understood the narrative.  In this sense, I think this piece is particularly effective in capturing the moment in time when the woman did love him and the feeling of love that had seemed to be lost.  It was really powerful to me.  I also really enjoyed... Chance Meeting, Death Comes to the Old Lady, The Voyeur's Pleasure Becomes Pain, The Young Girls Dream and The Lost Shoe.  Next in lecture came Jim Goldberg's Nursing Home Collection (1985).  I always find myself feeling sympathetic for old people, and this project further reimbursed those emotions.  I thought it was really powerful how their own handwriting was on their photographs, it made it very tangible, real.  I enjoyed the film as well, especially the actual film part when the woman lies in bed and moves.  I thought that little scene added a lot to the movie.

ARtshow/doc

Unfortunately, I was not able to make it to an art show this week :(  But definitely next week for sure! Anyways, the work for the week was all about the Sequence/Narrative projects.  This is one I really really reallllllly enjoyed!  At first, I went to my oldest brother's house to hang out with my 9 year old nephew who has autism.  I thought it would be really interesting to explore his world and try to en capture his uniqueness on camera.  However, I felt as though this project would be way more effective with footage over time, which I do not have access to yet.  So, when I was just playing around with my camera and talking to my 7 year old niece, we started talking about her parents.  I didn't wanna push it, because clearly that could be a sensitive issue.  However, she felt really comfortable in front of the camera and talking about it.  She even said talking about it made her feel better so that made me feel better about it!  Anyways, I ended up getting a lot of great narrative from her and felt I could make a really interesting short documentary about a child's point of view.   I showed a rough cut in class which I don't want to put up here.  I just got access to the editing lab and plan to have this finished by Thursday, hopefully by class time, but Friday at the latest.  It's really coming together and it is one of my most exciting shorts so far.  I hold this project really close to my heart and can't wait to share the final product!!!!
Two of the 3 kiddssss.

Personal Space Proposalllllllss

So for this assignment, Britta and I might be planning on doing something together.  Although we haven't decided on an idea yet, we came up with a few fun things.  First, possibly an obstacle course with a slip and slide and such.  I think it would be really fun for us to do this on campus because we could get others involved as well as do it ourselves.  However, because it would be like a slip and slide and such I am not sure how many people would want to get wet in between classes haha.  Anyways, not sure on other ideas but we'll gather one by lecture or I'll think of my own by then!

FLASH MOBSSS!

I think flash mobs are absolutely AHMAZING.  I've always wanted to see one but even more so I really WANT TO BE IN ONE! I think it is a perfect assignment for our class to do.  After talking about it in class, there were a few ideas that stood out to me.  First, I really liked the gun shooting one, where everyone pulls out fake guns and we start having a fake war with hand guns.  Haha not sure how UCSB will feel about it but it would sure be funny.  I also like the cowboy and indian one.  We all dress up as cowboys and indians and hide, then we rush at each other!  I think it'd be super random and funny.  I also love the traditional idea of a song and dance just because everyone wants to see this.  I would definitely be down to do it somewhere on campus but honestly I think it would be even better if we did it in class.  Like, someone stands up and asks a question, then someone stands up and answers it in song, then we just all stand and sing.  We would be THE SECTION that stands out after that one!!! I also like the olympic torch passing on campus, but that would be spread out so I'm not sure that's really a flashmob.  I think it'd be better if we were all in the same spot.  But anyways, YES LESS DO IT!

mah thing.

So, I LOVE MOVIES.  I have to say film is my favorite form of art.  Although it is not a recent movie I've seen, I would really like to comment on the well known 1999 film, American Beauty.  It is written by Allen Ball, and directed by Sam Mendes.  However, I'd really like to focus on the work of the cinematographer, Conrad Hall.  Conrad Hall's camera skill along with Sam Mendes artistic vision for this film really captured the exact aura and feeling that was necessary to fully develop this story line.  Each scene seems to perfectly en-capture the theme of the moment being presented.  Although each individual scene has it's own unique beauty and frame, the whole movie seems to string together perfectly and really grasped unity.  One of my favorite scene's is the opening shot of the neighborhood in which the camera comes in from above and swoops the trees as Kevin Spacey's voice narrates.  I also love the reoccurring leit motif of the roses, juxtaposing Lester's (Kevin Spacey's character) fantasy of a world of excitement that lies ahead of him to his boring cookie cutter life his wife has shaped for him (falling rose petals vs. boques and gardens).  The constant red, white, and blue all perfectly encompasses this world Lester feels trapped in.  Overall, everyone needs to see this movie and really think about the words Lester opens and closes the film with!!!

FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Today is a free for all blog.  So I am going to show some of my sister Sara's work.  My sister is a photographer residing and working in LA.  She is currently working for Creative 24 as a producer but also doing her own side work as a personal photographer.  She has done a lot of shoots but is now getting paid for bar/bat mitzvah shoots.  She just put together her PINE portfolio and I am hoping she continues to get more and more work because she is an amazing photographer and really deserves to excel in the industry.  Here are some of my favorite shots of hers.  Actually, I can't put her work up here for copyright stuff I don't want to get in trouble! But here is her website check it out! www.sarapine.com

Tuesday crit.

I really enjoyed today's projects.  I thought there were a lot of interesting ones and I really enjoyed the freedom of this project.  Although I feel some teacher's would comment that freedom would endure a lack of effort, I think mostly everyone put a lot into this project and really took the assignment to heart.  First of all, I obviously loved Erika's.  It was classic comedy.  I think she's so funny with the cat costume all the time and she did a perfect job putting herself into character and really pulled off the video.  Good job making everyone crack up ahaha.  Very creative.  I also really liked Eddie's song.  Not only was it very professional, but I loved the message within the song.  I liked how he sang about a story he made up rather than singing about the actual narrative.  It shows more creativeness and ability to create a story he wants to tell with emotion.  I also really liked the stop motion was because it was something really different and creative.  It also probably took a loooooooooooot of work.  Overall, I really liked them all.  Good job everyone!

Monday's Lecture

Monday's lecture was very interesting, definitely different than what we have had in lecture before.  I have never really heard Spoken Word before, and have never learned about it.  I think it is a really interesting form of expression because although what is being said can be taken ambiguously, depending on the perspective of the listeners, the way it is said and expressed to the audience conveys a certain mood and aura.  I definitely found it more effective when the performers memorized their work rather than read it from the paper.   I really liked the girl who went up and performed about her love, I thought the way she performed was really effective. I really felt her emotion as well as understood what she was talking about.  I liked the idea of the two girls who performed together but I think it could have been delivered a little better.  Beau Sia was pretty exceptional.  I really liked his dedication to his performance and his honesty about his life.  He seems like a really interesting person who would be really fun to hang out with!  I would love to sit down and have a conversations about his views on life and the preparations he takes to perform his spoken word.
